Why I Started This Company: De-Risking Real Estate for Healthcare Founders
When I talk to healthcare founders, there's a palpable energy, a deep passion for improving health outcomes for high-risk or high-need populations. They've designed incredible care models, often on whiteboards, with a singular focus: deliver high-quality care impacts health outcomes.
But translating that vision into tangible, functioning clinics – that's where the real complexity begins. I've seen it countless times: founders start looking for a broker, maybe a friend-of-a-friend referral. They quickly realize their broker isn't equipped to strategize their entire real estate footprint. They need direction, site parameters, demographic analysis – a whole consulting layer they didn't anticipate.
Then comes the snowball effect. As they dive deeper into the site search and planning, they discover the dozens of other consultants and vendors needed: space planners, architects, project managers, furniture vendors. Managing these 15+ different parties becomes a full-time job, sucking up precious time that should be spent refining their care model, recruiting their team, and focusing on their patients.
This is the problem I lived, saw, and am passionate about solving: giving founders back the time to build great care, preventing unforeseen cost overruns, timeline delays, and decision fatigue that detract from their core mission.
My journey to this point has been deeply rooted in the trenches of healthcare real estate. I've worked across the spectrum. I started my career working as junior commercial real estate broker cold-calling healthcare leaders and shifted to the corporate side, growing from an internal transaction manager to a VP leading a national, scaled real estate department overseeing multi-market development and portfolio optimization.
This experience allowed me to not only master the process but to develop the strategic foresight of a VP-level leader – understanding how to anticipate challenges, translate complex real estate decisions into business language, and ensure every physical space actively supports the company's financial and growth objectives, including a clear path to exit.
I’ve developed a unique understanding of the entire scope of how every department – marketing, clinical operations, strategy, growth, and crucially, finance – is impacted by the physical space. I bridge the gap between how strategic, MBA/consulting-type leaders think about business success, and the day-to-day realities of how patients and staff actually interact with a clinic. You need to think patient-first, but staff operating efficiency, happiness, and engagement are a very close second – a nuance not every leader fully grasps without direct operational experience.
From a micro perspective, my mission is to give founders confidence. Real estate is typically their second largest expense behind people, and I want them to be absolutely confident that this significant investment will bring their vision to life.
More broadly, my personal mission is driven by a deep conviction: to expand access to care. I want to help healthcare founders build as many sites as they can, across all care disciplines, so that people who need care can get it in a comfortable, welcoming environment.
I believe we must buck the trend of generic, institutional facilities that often fail to serve the whole patient. You can have the best care model, but if patients aren't engaged or can't access care in a timely, comfortable place, health outcomes will suffer.
But expanding access isn't just about speed and volume; it's about scaling smartly and sustainably. I've witnessed companies, fueled by massive funding, pursue aggressive growth before truly stabilizing operations. This often places undue strain on resources and, critically, on the patient experience they aim to provide.
Often, leaders eager to scale benefit immensely from external experience to identify potential bottlenecks and validate growth strategies across their business and patient care. I remember a company approaching me in November, aiming to open 8 new locations by April – with nothing in process. My assessment was that such a timeline was not only unrealistic given market realities, but unsustainable for their operations and patient care. Scaling smartly also means achieving financial predictability.
